Thickness Effects of Surface Direct Fluorination and Plasma Modification on Ultra‐High Molecular Weight Polyethylene Ultrathin Membranes

For the first time, an ultrathin type of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) membrane only 350 nm thickness is surface modified by direct fluorination and plasma treatments. Then a notable suppression in crystallinity observed. A total four kinds thickness, from to 6 µm, are investigated correlate modification effect on thickness. Microscopically, continuous shish-kebab structure transforms into scattered lamellae clusters. And damage morphologies increases as decreases, yet resultant contact angles remain almost constant. Especially for thin UHMWPE, mildest treatment slightly changes angle, while multiscale significantly crystalline mesoscopic level. As decreases µm nm, volume ratio membranes increases, volumetric realized membrane.
